Communicating to an LCD-screen monitor by radio waves, this wireless, self-emptying rain collector can be placed up to 108 yards away, allowing a gardener or hobbyist to keep track of daily and cumulative precipitation from the comfort of home or office. A memory function recalls daily-precipitation data from the previous nine days. The monitor also shows the indoor temperature of the room in which it's kept, the time, and the date. There are two alarms: One sounds when rainfall exceeds an amount selected, and the second is a clock alarm for wakeup or reminder. Programmable to display rainfall in inches or millimeters and temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit, this system operates on two sets of AA batteries. One set powers the monitor, the other powers the collector. (Batteries not included.) The monitor measures 5-2/3 by 3-2/3 inches, and the collector is 5-2/3 inches in diameter and 5-3/4 inches high. --Fred Brack

 Stick with a coffee can and ruler!
This little electronic time and money waster is easily the worst electronic device I have ever had the misfortune of purchasing. The instructions are worthless. The rainfall results never came close to matching my old trusty glass rain gage...was it the transmitter or receiver? Fresh batteries installed...whoa! Apparently the design engineer assumed they would never need to be replaced and decided to make them as inaccesible as he possibly could. I hope you love working with tiny screws and impossible holes. After countless attempts at replacing batteries, hitting reset switches, and pushing all the receiver buttons in vain, I got out the hammer! The trash men picked up the pieces last Thursday....

I never even looked at the instuction manual, considering what I read about it here. Setup was easy using the reviewers instructions. The unit works great, just make sure to level it with a REAL level, don`t use the droplet method. Unless you enjoy removing all of those screws, do as I did, replace the batteries in the outdoor unit with Lithium ones. I have a set in my temperature sending unit over 3 years old, still going strong!
Nice quality - forget the manual
I think I would have been better off wihout the manual for this item! I could not get it to work and finally after reading the reviews here, I got it to work...but not at first. It took several reset sequences. I'm not looking forward to changing the batteries and going through it all over again. Once up and running, I really like this product. I've had many chances to see it operate since it has rained just about every day since I installed it. It indeed is inaccurate compared to a low-tech-but-accurate rain gauge. It consistently reads low. So, I'm now in the process of moving the factory preset calibration screws inside until it reads close to the manual gauge.
