 ACER AL2216Wbd worth the risk
My old Viewsonic Pro was going bad, after 10 years of solid service. I contemplated trying to utilize a LCD TV as both monitor and Television, but decided that that was a bad idea. I decided that if I could find an acceptable monitor for around $200 I would go ahead and buy one.
I really wanted a Samsung, as I have alot of experience with their monitors and am very impressed with their tech support and service. But all the ones that I liked were more in the $300-350 range. I saw the Acer AL2216Wbd 22" LCD Monitor in black and decided I'd look at it. Then after finding several decent reviews and a good price on amazon I bought one. One thing a few friends suggested was not to buy from Ebay or some overstock type company, because invariably these will have one or two bad pixels. I took that to heart. As soon as I got the monitor I hooked it up and ran several pixel tests and found NO bad pixels. I've had the monitor long enough to know that (for the money) it's a great deal. I love it. I do wish it had the USB hub in it like a dell (since I no longer have a huge behemoth hiding all my USB cables.)
Sweet monitor for just over $200
Ordered this monitor on Amazon on Sunday 3/9/08. Shipped to Maine from PA and received it on Wednesday 3/12/08. Fast for ground shipping!!! The monitor arrived with only a slight ding in the corner of the box but the monitor itself was in perfect conditon. After a careful look I found zero bad pix. For the price ($235 with shipping) it has a beautiful picture. Anyone with limited funds wanting a large LCD this is the one.
Value & Performance
I just installed my new Acer AL2216Wbd monitor - No pun intended it is an ace! Easy to install on my Mac G5. The picture looks awesome. I have watched some Tivo movies, Itunes movies, digital photographs and the quality is outstanding. Web pages look great as well. The widescreen is great - I don't know how I lived without if for so long. This monitor replaces my 8 year old 20 inch CRT - I really appreciate more desk space with the smaller foot print with this monitor. My needs are probably not as demanding as a gamer or graphic artist but for the average user this monitor offers quality and value. I don't think you can go wrong buying this monitor.
